The History of Duncan Phyfe
Trained as a cabinetmaker in the late 18th century, Duncan Phyfe became one of the leading 19th century American furniture makers.  Employing over 100 people at the height of his New York City furniture and cabinet business, his name is still associated 150 years later with the style of furniture that he created.  Influenced by a number of the period's styles, his pieces are often characterized by carved or reeded legs and a neoclassic design in mahogany wood.
